Writing
Yvette writes poems sporadically when she feels like it. She is influenced by writers who write spontaneously just as they think it, writers who like detail and writers who are funny but don’t realise it. Frank O’Hara, Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, Julia Darling, Syvia Plath, Leonard Cohen, Alice Walker and Ben Okri are just a few to mention. She has been published occasionally and knows she should probably take a course to get better, but who really has the time for that? She has won several awards for her writing most recently from Northern Film and Media who ran a project called ‘Words and Vision’ in conjunction with New Writing North.
Yvette has performed her poems across audiences throughout the UK including Glastonbury Festival which was a complete fluke where white wine spritzers were involved. She’s competed in poetry slams and not gotten anywhere for which she’s not bitter in the least.
